The Pathos Kratos Integrated Amplifier takes its name from the Greek god of strength, might, and power — an apt reference for an amplifier built to deliver serious current into demanding loudspeaker loads while retaining the tonal character that defines the Pathos sound. Unlike Pathos’ InPol-based models, the Kratos uses the company’s original hybrid circuit topology: a pure Class-A tube preamplifier stage feeding a high-power MOSFET output stage, giving listeners tube-driven warmth paired with substantial solid-state authority.

The preamplification stage runs in pure Class A using a pair of Tung-Sol ECC803S tubes, producing the warm, deep, and dynamic character Pathos is known for. This feeds into a MOSFET final stage running in bridge configuration, biased strongly toward Class A operation even though it operates in Class AB — delivering 200W per channel into 8Ω and 350W per channel into 4Ω. This combination of power and control gives the Kratos the muscle to drive difficult loudspeakers with ease, while retaining much of the finesse typically associated with smaller, lower-powered tube designs.

A distinguishing feature of the Kratos design is the clear electrical separation between its preamp and power amp stages, each accessible via balanced XLR pre-out and direct power-amp input connections. This lets the Kratos function as a standalone integrated amplifier or be split into separate preamp and power amp roles within a larger system. A dedicated headphone amplifier circuit is also built in, delivering 2W into 32Ω loads for high-quality personal listening.

Visually, the Kratos design draws inspiration from Logos, one of Pathos’ most successful historic products, though the resemblance is aesthetic only — under the hood, Kratos incorporates newer technical solutions that Pathos considers the leading edge of its non-InPol amplifier range. The Kratos ships with 5 RCA and 2 balanced XLR analog inputs as standard, plus a digital display and remote-controlled functions, and can be expanded with an optional HiDac Mk2 DAC card or an optional RIAA phono input for MM/MC cartridges.

As with every Pathos amplifier, the Kratos is designed and hand-built in Vicenza, Italy — from the chassis and PCBs to the padouk wood front panel — reflecting the company’s commitment to complete in-house manufacturing control.
