The Pathos InPol EAR brings the company’s award-winning InPol (Inseguitore Pompa Lineare, or “Linear Pump Follower”) technology to the world of headphones for the first time. Patented by Pathos and long used in its flagship integrated amplifiers, InPol is a fully balanced, pure Class-A hybrid topology: a tube stage handles voltage amplification and imparts its full harmonic signature to the signal, while a solid-state InPol current stage supplies the drive needed to power headphones — all without negative feedback diluting the tube’s character.

Inside the InPol EAR, a “double InPol” configuration doubles down on this approach for a fully balanced, high-current design capable of driving demanding headphones across a wide range of impedances, from easy-to-drive dynamics to power-hungry planars. The result, according to reviewers, is a warm, rich, highly detailed sound that stays composed and full-bodied rather than syrupy or soft — with enough current on tap to comfortably drive nearly any headphone in a listener’s collection.

Beyond headphone duty, the InPol EAR doubles as a fully balanced preamplifier, with both XLR and RCA pre-outputs and remote-selectable output polarity, making it equally at home driving a power amplifier in a two-channel system. Analog inputs include one balanced XLR and four single-ended RCA connections, and the unit can be expanded with Pathos’s optional HiDac Mk2 DAC module, adding USB, S/PDIF coaxial, S/PDIF optical, Ethernet, and additional USB inputs for a fully digital-capable front end.

True to Pathos form, the InPol EAR is handmade in Italy, with a sculpted center chassis flanked by aluminum heatsinks shaped into the brand’s signature logo, protecting the visible tubes housed at its core.
