THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND
The concept of the MA 6.3 is well known from the award-winning ‘8’ power amplifiers. With its generous output of 680 watts per channel, the MA 6.3 is available in a compact OVATION standard housing, equipped with external heat sinks. The MA 6.3 is designed as a balanced Class A / AB amplifier which is built in the output stages with MOS-FET transistors. These MOS-FET transistors are inherently much faster than bi-polar transistors, though much harder to handle. The speed of this MOS FET-based circuit helps us realize an unprecedented level of tonal detail. The symmetrical circuit topology of the output stage provides a tonal fullness as you would expect from much more expensive power amplifiers.

The effort in the mono power amplifiers is immense. The mono / mono principle provides ideal channel separation, while independent power supplies feed each stage of the MA 6.3 individually, effectively eliminating unwanted interference from the amplifier stages. The input stages are fully DC coupled. The MA 6.3 output stages are designed as a symmetrical architecture, ie a signal is present at both speaker terminals (Caution: none of the two speaker terminals may come into contact with the housing!). All boards are built with very strong and 75μm thick Reinstkupferbahnen, completely gold plated and coated with thermally tolerant black paint. All boards are assembled at the factory at AVM. The driver stage has its own, separately controlled operating point setting. In the design of this particularly relevant amplifier stage, we use our full know-how. For example, the LEDs used not only signal the correct function, they are also much less noise than Zener diodes. The power amplifiers are powered by a 1000VA main transformer, supported by 160,000μF (that’s 0,16F!) Ultra-quick capacitors in parallel.

The MA 6.3 is completely updateable, which means that other useful functions can be simply reloaded in the future. An active phase display facilitates the correct connection. In the MA 6.3 many useful ‘helpers’ work in the background for you and help to maximize ease of use: Protective circuits prevent damage eg in connection errors, overheating and overload protection.

Like all AVM devices, the MA 6.3 are manufactured by hand in the factory in Malsch – the vast majority of suppliers, eg for the precise housing parts, are also located in the immediate vicinity. Repeated, intensive quality controls during all manufacturing steps and a multi-day break-in period for each individual device ensure our long-term promise of highest reliability.
